// Opinion // English Review Center

Just a quick note on an English review center that helped us study for the TOEFL iBT exam, which we recently passed with flying colors. Here's our way of saying thanks to the people behind the review center, particularly Ms. Cathy.

Speakwell Academy provides helpful tips and valuable lessons when reviewing for IELTS and TOEFL iBT exams. We had our reviews at the QC center, but they also have branches in Makati and Manila.

Here's their QC address:
Unit 400 C-I Delta Bldg, Quezon Ave. cor. West Avenue, Quezon City. Tel.: (632) 412-2758 to 59. Fax (632) 412-2760. E-mail: speakwellacademyqc@yahoo.com.

Before finalizing your application, ask about how you can get a 30% discount, which they offer if you refer another person to them. Please mention you got their contact info from Filipino Nursing Herald (nursingherald.blogspot.com).

When we took our TOEFL review class, we were supposed to take a 1-week review, but they changed the sched and instead we had 2 or 3 weekend (Sat & Sun) classes.

Better call them for their new schedule and training rate. In February, the fee was P5,500 but that was discounted. Better to call them to check.

//How To// Applying for a license in New Zealand

Filipino nurses who wish to register with the Nursing Council of New Zealand must show proof that they are registered with the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) of the Philippines as a nurse and they must either 1) have completed an assessment program or 2) have earned a qualification equivalent to a New Zealand nursing qualification. Only a nursing degree earned from an Australian nursing school is deemed equivalent to a NZ nursing qualification, so unless you have the money to enroll in Australia or NZ, the best route to take is the 6-week competency assessment program. To simplify the application process, here's what you need to do: 1. Take the IELTS. A band of 7 on all parts of the exam is required by the NZ Nursing Council. An average of 7, with scores below 7 in any part will not qualify you for registration. You must consistently score at least 7 in all parts--reading, listening, writing and speaking. 2. Once you have the IELTS, contact the NZ Nursing Council. You wil
