//How To// Applying for a license in New Zealand

Filipino nurses who wish to register with the Nursing Council of New Zealand must show proof that they are registered with the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC) of the Philippines as a nurse and they must either 1) have completed an assessment program or 2) have earned a qualification equivalent to a New Zealand nursing qualification. Only a nursing degree earned from an Australian nursing school is deemed equivalent to a NZ nursing qualification, so unless you have the money to enroll in Australia or NZ, the best route to take is the 6-week competency assessment program. To simplify the application process, here's what you need to do: 1. Take the IELTS. A band of 7 on all parts of the exam is required by the NZ Nursing Council. An average of 7, with scores below 7 in any part will not qualify you for registration. You must consistently score at least 7 in all parts--reading, listening, writing and speaking. 2. UPDATE: In Sept. 2011, IDFPR made some changes to the application guidelines that affect internationally-educated nurses. Updated information is provided after each step, where necessary. Oakland, CA crime rate::

Though substantial gains have been made as evidenced from the Uniform Crime Reports published by the FBI, the city still ranks high in California for most categories of crime. In the 2006 Morgan Quitno crime rankings, Oakland is ranked the eighth most dangerous city nationwide and the second most dangerous in California after Compton. In 2006, Oakland had 148 murders,[17] the highest amount in ten years and the third highest amount since the early 1990s.[18] The murder rate increased 57 percent from only 94 murders in 2005. The highest peak was 175 homicides in 1992[19] - which was at a time when an average of 160 murders a year occurred in the 1990s (1999 saw the lowest count at 68). The majority of the crimes being committed occur in the flatlands of the city in between I-580 and I-880,[20] primarily in West Oakland and Far East Oakland. Besides homicides, Oakland has significant problems with both violent and property crimes. Oakland government has been seeking to lower the crime rate, and the Oakland Police Department has stepped up its recruiting efforts.

You're right. Anyone looking to immigrate to the US should also study other factors, aside from salary. Crime rate and the availability of support groups, such as relatives or other people who share the same culture, are also important things.

i think the tri state area (nyc)is still one of the best areas for filipino nurses to start their career here in the states. the friendliest pinoys in the states are located here. jobs are abundant, part time too. nyc is so culturally diverse a new immigrant will always feel at home.

What do you think about the Nevada State Board of Nursing compared to the others?? Is it true that the NCLEX there is more difficult??? I'm planning on applying there. thanks....
